The International Association of Health Policy (IAHP) is a scientific, political and cultural organization founded in Amsterdam in 1976. It is an international network of scholars, health workers and activists aiming to promote a scientific analysis of public health issues and to constitute a forum for international comparisons and debates on health policy issues. The basic principle adopted by the IAHP members is to consider health as a social and political right. The main objective is to support relevant proposals to health promotion and social development, as well as the struggle against health inequalities.
The Association has a critical, non dogmatic position about health policy in the society. In this way, it is possible to think about health care alternatives to be characterized as human, democratic and supportive. IAHP maintains various relationships with international organizations and regional movements that are fighting for the same objectives
Some years ago, IAHP became an organization structured by a network. The basic idea is to be an organization and keep the positive aspects of the experience of being a political movement
The association is interdisciplinary and investigates on Public Health subjects as: social medicine; environmental and occupational health; epidemiology; medical sociology; anthropology; health policy and economy of health. The main theoretical-analytical perspective is to promote an interaction between theory and practice in the health policy scenario. Its main activities are the regular promotion of conferences and seminars. These meetings cover various subjects and promote a frequent connection between researchers and Public Health and Health Policies interested.
